Facts About Eyelash Extensions
Must-know facts about eyelash extensions:
1. One "size" does not fit all. Not everyone will have the same natural lashes. If you have been lashing for a while, you will have noticed that eyelash extensions are not a one size fits all. Eyelash extensions should be tailored to each clients needs, and more importantly, the health of their natural lashes by choosing the correct length and thickness to create a look that will suit them and ensure the health of the natural lashes is not compromised. Extremely long or thick eyelash extensions may not suit every individual and as a professional it is our duty to choose wisely and not cause any damage to the nature lash.
2. A full set of lashes should never be all one length. Have you noticed that when you are doing a refill or new set that your clients natural lashes are not all one length? Well neither should the eyelash extensions be when you apply them to ensure a natural looking set. Always be guided by the natural lashes. They are finer and shorter on the inner and outer corners whilst longer and thicker along the center of the lash line.
3. Fact. Hair (including eyelashes) has a life cycle consisting of three phases: the growth phase (anagen), the degradation phase (catagen) where hair is in transition and the resting phase (telogen). Following the telogen phase, the lash falls out and the life cycle begins again with a new lash in the anagen phase. When eyelash extensions are applied & maintained correctly, they will grow out with the natural lash whilst still being attached.
4. Natural lashes will always grow and fall out (refer to number3) at a different rate and your lash extensions will too. Typically, the whole cycle averages about 60 days. When your natural lash falls out there is one waiting to take its place. Depending on your lash growth cycle, you can lose anywhere from 1 to 5 natural lashes per day with and without eyelash extensions. Frequent lash refills will ensure that the new hair growth and those hairs in anagen phase are replaced to maintain a full look.
5. You SHOULD be seeing your natural lashes and extensions fall out together. This is normal. If your extensions fall off before the natural lash, the adhesive bond wasn’t strong enough or maintenance instructions were not followed correctly.
6. Eyelash extension adhesive is designed to create a permanent bond between the extension and the natural lash. It is nearly impossible to remove extensions yourself without damaging your natural lashes. See a professional if you need removal!
